Kathmandu
Before starting your trek to Mount Everest Base Camp, it is worth to spend a few days at Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. Visit Thamel district, the center of Kathmandu with its restaurants, souvenir shops, and markets. Later you can have a drink at Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world, located about 11 km northeast of the city center. On the next day, consider visiting Bhaktapur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 15 km east of Kathmandu. Plan at least a full day to walk in the small streets where cars are not allowed to enter. On another day, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, also UNESCO World Heritage Site and enjoy the view from Swayambhunath, known as the Monkey Temple.
