Islets of Granada
From the center of town, walk the quick 10 minute stroll down to the shores of Lake Nicaragua. You’ll find one of the many boats operating this island tour to hop onto. These tiny fishing-type boats will then take you on a tropical adventure to see an archipelago of 365 tiny islands in and around Lake Nicaragua. These islands were once formed by the spews of stones and ash from Mombacho’s volcano, which have since grown over with vegetation and human occupancy. The islands are also home to two different Nicaraguan societies. First is the fisherman families who have been there for years. The second is that of Nicaraguan high society, who have built luxury homes for their weekend escapades. Although the Las Isletas are typically visited by boat, you can also explore the lake by kayak.
