This masterpiece of Baroque architecture, with its grandiose and iconic copper dome, is a Viennese landmark. Marvelous sculpture and carvings abound inside and out but the artistic focal point is the cupola, adorned with Rottmayr’s lustrous frescos. There’s been some grumbling that the elevator which has been installed to carry visitors to the top, mars the beauty of this majestic church, But it provides the extremely rare opportunity to see works of this sort up close which should not be missed. The Karlskirche is also a prime spot for music lovers, frequent classical concerts take place here.
