Xishuangbanna is not often visited by foreign tourists but it should be. This is a unique spot. Still located in china but it was the dense jungle and a mixing of culture from parts of Southeast Asia. It borders Myanmar and Laos and this mix of Chinese and Southeast Asia makes for an interesting culture. Besides just culture a deep dense jungle full of wild elephants (seriously my friend saw them on the side of the road here) is not often associated with China but here it is in Yunnan! It is the only tropical rain forest reserve in China. Try to make it for the water sprinkling festival in middle of April if you can.
