This exhibit stopped me cold. It marks where 3500 people were forced to step out of their shoes in 1944-45, then executed so their bodies would fall into the river and be carried downstream. About 800 were Jews. A large crowd gathered to pay respects. The most affecting and hard to take are the children's shoes. #history
