Head to Hyehwa, a district northeast of the capital, where you can watch over 80 independent theatres showing performances on a daily basis. The thriving theatre district remains off the radar to most tourists and more so from locals because Hongdae has become Seoul’s SoHo, making Hyehwa less known yet still part of the city’s cultural boom. The area also has diverse and inexpensive eateries, trendy cafés and a small park to chill out in the evening.
