It's a rough road to reach Lalibela, but incredibly worth it. There are seven rock hewn churches to explore like Indiana Jones, with St. George the most world famous. I was here during Orthodox Christmas (Jan 6/7) and this tiny town hosted nearly 30,000 pilgrims, who slept anywhere they could find a spot. Lalibela is slowly becoming tourist equipped - there are lots of cheap accoms (but they hike rates at high season!) and good food. 110% recommend going here
