ANTIQUES BARN
Adjacent an abandoned, overgrown railway line, in the district of Žižkov, Prague are a handful of sizable antique warehouses. The area is peppered with wild flowers and shrubs adding to the unique atmosphere it projects. I immediately connected to the place. Stodola Antiques is the first warehouse on your right as you walk through the enclosure. The depot has a bold, yellow sign outside its entrance and even its own delivery van! Small iron steps climb to a one metre raised ledge, which in turn leads to a side door of the building itself. It looked as if it had been around a while and thus I was eager to see how it measured up to what I was used to seeing in England. Having grown up with mahogany, walnut and elm wood furniture, my appreciation for these pieces was already established. My interested was piqued. Veneered tables, sumptuous settles, classic chairs, paintings, busts and various other affordable pieces are stacked on top of one another on entering. There is a sort of order though and it is very apparent throughout the depot. Compared to the regimented lines of IKEA, or Sconto however, the place feels a bit like being in Aladdin's cave by comparison. I skirted through the isles stacked high with mahogany and marble top tables with glee and wonder. Most items are affordable. For those willing to part with a few hundred dollars for rather classy dining tables, you can at least be assured they won't lose value! #antiques #furniture #art #Prague
