Classic whitewater #kayaking and canoeing run about 40 minutes from Asheville. Even at low water, there are still such fun lines, and with a ducky it's manageable for pretty much anyone who's comfortable on the water and in decent shape. The gorge is remarkably beautiful, wide and ancient--this is the third oldest river in the world, apparently predating the continent of north America itself.
