Legend has that some great military leader from centuries ago ( I forget his name) was outmanned and in the run. In a final act of desperation he prayed for Devine intervention to save himself and his men and that is when the gorge formed between his army and that of his enemy.  There is a bunch of hiking trails here and be aware there is a nominal fee to enter the park.
