I would suggest you to spend at least a couple of days in Kyoto to get to know the ancient capital properly, but if you don’t have enough time for that, a day trip is also possible. If you do a complete day there, you can get to see some of its original (not renovated) temples, pagodas, ancient neighbour hoods, restaurants, theatres, and even if you are lucky, you can spot a couple of real Geishas in Gion district.
