Independence Visitor Center
Philadelphia is famous for his numerous murals and you can start your tour of these anyplace you like. But since many folks are going to pop into the Independence Visitor Center at some point, this is as good a place as any to begin. The city’s murals are a mixed bag, many along the famous “Mural Mile” feel more like predictable civic lessons than grand works of and are definitely not the edgy, dynamic street art that I personally love. But if you check out the Mural Arts Philadelphia website you can download a walking map, plan a customized route depending on what tickles your fancy or join one of the popular guided tours. And even if you’re not looking for any specific painted wall, you will almost certainly run across some. They are everywhere and part of what makes Philly, well Philly.
