If you are looking for a heaping dose of Habsburg era art, history and culture, the Hofburg Palace delivers. The lavish Kaiserappartements with their luxurious displays of regal opulence are, for most people, the main draw here. Empress Elizabeth’s sumptuous finery is on display and is very popular with visitors. But I preferred the Kaiserliche Schatzkammer with its glittering religious and royal treasures. Make sure to also take in the chapel, the musical instrument museum and the delightful globe museum. This huge complex is one of Vienna’s top sights for a very good reason.
