Houston Maritime Center and Museum
Small museum covering the history of ships and sailing, from the ancients to now, with many models and artifacts. Slight emphasis on Houston's shipping ties, and a good exhibit on the history of the Port of Houston, but strong on earlier history as well. Informed and enthusiastic docents. Close to Houston Museum of Natural Science Wiess Energy Hall for more about offshore well technology. Also in range of the Port of Houston for more on modern ties and shipping. Small entry fee. 9-5 Tues-Sat; Sun-Mon by appt, the sign says. Small parking lot; some street parking, 2 blocks to bus stop. Very worthwhile if going down to the sea in ships is your thing. #ship #sea #ocean #history #museum #sailing #education #kidslearning #kidfriendly
