Khreshchatyk is Kiev’s main avenue stretching 1.2 kilometers from Maidan Square. During the weekend, the Kreshchatyk turns into a pedestrian street and has many points of interest including an indoor market, the city council, Maidan Nezalezhnosti and the People’s Friendship Arch - a huge Soviet monument dedicated to the unification of Russia and Ukraine in 1654.
