Cataloochee Valley is worth every twist and turn of the drive in. A wide valley surrounded by high peaks, it's hard to imagine anyone eking out an existence here even with the historic homes, the chapel and the schoolhouse to remind you that people called this place home not too long ago. The Palmer Chapel has an interesting feel, and I think other visitors detect that too; it's the only structure unmarried by graffiti left by irresponsible visitors.
