Pedro de Osma Museum
It is fascinating to see how the Cusco school of painting in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries so closely followed what was happening in Spain and other very Catholic countries. It was disturbing to see how the indigenous people of Cusco figured not at all in the paintings. This made me reflect on pastoral paintings from the early days of the US; were black, native or other Americans properly reflected in those paintings? The back gallery, which focuses on the Inca peoples and rulers, was a welcome relief from all the whites-only ornate European-style art. At least the grounds are great and it’s right next door to the MATE Mario Testino Museum.
