祇園祭り Gion Festival One of Japan’s most famous festivals. It occurs in the month of July and the main parade (Yamaboko Junko) happens on July 17 and 24. During the festival, streets of Kyoto are packed with food stalls (yatai) and people wear traditional summer clothing, yakata, while enjoying the festive evenings.
