Typically this is done as a drive and it's a really good one. Not only is the scenery beautiful but the one lane road is really fun to drive on. The mountains all over Death Valley have beautiful colors but it's super concentrated here. It doesn't look real. Death Valley doesn't have a lot of established trails but you can basically hike anywhere you want. Pick an alluvial fan and canyon and walk up to it. The book "Hiking Death Valley" is a must if you plan on doing a lot of hiking here. The book describes which canyons are worth walking up, where there are natural springs, etc so you're not just guessing.
