When JK Rowling received the Edinburgh Award back in 2008, the event was commemorated by placing her handprints on a flagstone outside the Royal Mile’s elegant City Chambers. The award itself is for members of the community who have made an outstanding impact on the city, and has also been awarded to influential people such as Sir Chris Hoy and author Ian Rankin.
