Powell's City of Books in Portland takes up one city block and is the largest bookstore in the world. With approximately one million books dispersed throughout several floors, I usually block out several hours for browsing. My favorite floor is the red room. It is located on the top floor and houses maps, travel guides, women's studies, intercultural communication and photography books. If you want to comb through a book before you buy it, there is a coffee shop inside the store. You can purchase an oatmeal cookie or specialty coffee and read while you eat.
