Khiva old town, Uzbekistan  The 29 metre Kalta Minor minaret is the symbol of the old town. The construction begun in 1851 by the Khiva ruler Mohammad Amin Khan. According to the legend, he wanted to build a minaret so high he could see all the way to Bukhara. Unfortunately, he was killed in 1855 and the construction stopped.
