High Castle
Getting to the castle in the small town of Visegrád along Hungary's Danube Bend was an adventure in its own. As we arrived at the train station, we could see the 13th century fortress resting upon a steep and intimidating cliffside. The only problem: it was across the river, no bridge to be found. We quickly mimicked the locals and boarded a makeshift ferry system, consisting of a floating platform and tugboat. Once on the correct side, the hike to the castle is easy to find. Make your way through the town center and follow the signs. You'll see the designated trail symbol, which guides you up the precipitous hillside. It's well worth the confusion and adventure as the view from the top is outstanding, and connects you to an elaborate trail system, working like a labyrinth through the surrounding countryside. #hiking #history #castles
