At just 30 minutes away from Trujillo, this picturesque beach town is home to many fishermen escaping the hustle of the city. Hunchaco is known as one of the first places where Peruvians learn to surf using "caballitos de totora" - a kind of surfboard made of cattail. You can still find some of those boards if you ask around. This is a great place for beginners to learn.
