Encounter Mara Camp | Asilia Africa
#photography #camping Crisscross to the safari capital, the Masai Mara National Reserve, where you can actually trace the footsteps of Karen Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton for that true Out of Africa experience. But today, we are in Naboisho Conservancy – recreating a similar experience in the modern day through fly camping. In the afternoon, an armed guide leads the way from Encounter Mara through a trail that winds up and down the hills and rocks, for 3 hours, all the while explaining the wildlife and vegetation you encounter along the way. You get to a remote area, the site of your solo private fly camp. Depending on the distance, you are allowed to drive to the camp with an en route game viewing session. All in all, the arrival is perfectly timed to coincide with the sunset – the colorful display of the last hours of the day. There is already a flurry of activities going on to ensure your stay is comfortable. You are quickly handed a drink and ushered to a chair positioned to soak the view of the sprawling landscape as well as that of the sunset. Meanwhile, your dinner is being prepared over an open fire. By now you have already turned to the campfire specifically set up to warm you. Dinner is served – no exotic cuisines to try out – but tasty all the same. Time to go to bed. A cozy canvas tent awaits. The wilderness sounds wake you at the crack of dawn the next morning. You quickly get up to catch a glimpse of the sunrise followed by a light breakfast. The return walk back to the camp begins shortly after. This is the true taste of the wilderness experience.
