Although there aren’t campgrounds in Monterey Proper, it shouldn’t stop you from making a stop in here. Get there around midday to have lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf and visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Spend the afternoon with a leisurely walk around cannery row and keep your eyes out for marine life, it’s aplenty. Before taking off back on the road, have dinner at Hula’s Island Grill which serves up some serious delicious Hawaiian food. If time allocates, venture down the 17 mile drive towards Pebble Beach.
