More #history. #Mission #NuestraSenora del #EspirituSanto de Zuniga. One of several #Spanish #Missions in #Texas. Founded 1722 on what is now Lavaca Bay. Moved to Guadalupe River 1726 & to current site on San Antonio River 1749. Primary focus, aside from evangelizing local natives, was #cattle - Espiritu Santo was really the first large-scale cattle #ranching outfit in Texas as it is now. Secularized 1830, mostly fell to ruin thereafter. Largely reconstructed by #CCC late 1930s after it was deeded to the State of Texas. Now centerpiece of #StateHistoricalPark. #Presidio La Bahia, which was built to protect the mission, is likewise somewhat restored and located just down the road and is even more significant in the history of Texas. #camping #hiking #nature #fishing #river
