The Jokhang Temple is the most important temple in Tibet and pilgrims come from all over this huge country to prostrate around and pray in front of it. It was built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo for his three wives (one from Nepal one from China and on from Tibet) and a lot of the statues inside were brought as dowries.
