Stehekin, WA
The remote mountain village of Stehekin was named after the Indian word that means "the way through," an ancient trade route to the Puget Sound. In 1968, Stehekin became the gateway to the new North Cascades National Park. No roads lead to Stehekin. Hike in, boat in or air water taxi in to the head of fifty-five mile long Lake Chelan whose waters reach 1,500' in North America's deepest canyon. The fall colors are fire red and gold.
