Zócalo
Also known as Plaza de la Constitucion, Zocalo is where Mexico City started. Flanked by the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral, built between 1573 and 1813, - it is the largest Plaza in Latin America. Indigenous people perform dances and cleansing ceremonies here. You'll hear the drumming and smell the wafting incense. Concerts and cultural events also take place. The enormous flag at the centre of the plaza is raised at 6 am and lowered at 6 pm by military police.
