Glen Helen
The first thing you see when you arrive at Glen Helen Gorge is the dramatically monolithic sandstone wall towering above the river and the small restaurant. Here, the West MacDonnell Ranges part to make way for the Finke River – one of the oldest rivers in the world. There is water in the river all year round which makes it an important refuge for wildlife and weary travellers alike. The Gorge is located 132 kilometres from Alice Springs and can be reached by the scenic drive along Mereenie loop. It is a convenient base for exploring the West MacDonnell Ranges since the only accommodation in the ranges is located here. And if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can take a helicopter ride over the ranges from Glen Helen Gorge. #photography #swimming #views
