Although generally considered to be more of a history museum, this place holds some of the city’s finest works of art. Their gorgeous and moving medieval wood carvings are a must-see and the stained glass windows on display are utterly sublime. Wien Museum also has an enviable collection of modernist works with standout pieces by Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka and Richard Gerstl, a long under-appreciated artist who has recently been receiving much greater recognition in the art world for his incredible gifts.
