Hyde Park
Hyde Park is home to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Historic Site and is where our 32nd President was born, lived a good part of his life and is buried next to his wife Eleanor. The area and attractions are a must see for any serious history buff, the guided tours are superb and it’s an easy day trip from NYC.
Also make sure to get over to E.R.’s Vall Kill cottage to learn about the woman who was in many ways, even more interesting than her esteemed husband and hugely accomplished in her own right. Among other projects she and her friends, the couple Marion Dickerman and Nancy Cook, began programs here to help underprivileged women find work. Eleanor also spent a good deal of time at Vall Kill with Lorena Hickock, a reporter with whom she was almost certainly romantically involved.
