There are two main reasons to check out Ljubljana’s brilliant 100 year old gallery of fine art and they are two really, really good ones. On the ground floor the collection of pieces from the Middle Ages truly shines, especially the superb carved sculpture. But the serious revelation comes when you come upon the canvases by one of the country’s most celebrated artists, the immensely talented Ivan’s Kobilca. I heard proud Slovenians more than once refer to her as “our Michelangelo” and her work is truly stunning.
