Highway 395
Are you more of a mountain person than a beach person and still want to drive across California? This is your road. The mighty Sierra Nevada mountain range is on one side and a dry high elevation desert on the other. This drive should be as famous as highway 1 for different reasons. Things worth stopping for on this drive: Mt. Whitney and the Alabama Hills, the numerous all natural free hot springs, bristlecone pine forests (the oldest trees in the world!), the charming town of Bishop, the best way to get to Yosemite National Park (through the back! on highway 120 straight through Tuolomne Meadows), Mono Lake, and a Mobile gas station with ridiculously good food and sometimes live music (it’s in Lee Vining). It’s a very good road. #mountains #photography #climbing #camping
