You can't get much higher than the High Tatras, at least not in Slovakia. To really take advantage of that altitude, head to Skalnate pleso (meaning lake) via the gondola. The scenic ride will give you sweeping views of the valley below and stunning portraits of the jagged Tatry peaks, if not just the jitters.
