You’ll need a set of wheels and an hour each way to get to Trakoscan Castle from Zagreb but it’s well worth the trip. The surrounding area is stunning and you can easily walk around the castle’s artificial lake, admire the park or rent a paddleboat for a better view. The inside of castle itself is a little unusual, rooms are decorated in styles from different eras and displays cover the history of the long residence of the noble Draskovic family. The weapons collection is notably intriguing as is the compilation of various coats of arms on the walls, meant to impress visitors by showcasing the other aristocratic clans that the family had married into.
