Cathedral of Zagreb
Zagreb’s cathedral is not only the tallest building in the nation, it’s twin spires form the city’s most iconic sight and can be seen from all around the metropolitan area. It was severely damaged during an 1880 earthquake but was duly reconstructed, although the towers are currently under repair and partially covered with scaffolding. The highlight of the cathedral’s interior is the elaborate sarcophagus of Zagreb’s WWII era Cardinal, Aloysius Stepinac, whose beatification remains one of the Catholic Church’s most controversial.
