Pronounced “pie-ESS-tuh-wah,” the trek to this 2,600 ft plus mountain peak is a favorite for fitness and views. Once named Squaw Peak, the city renamed this mountain in honor of Lori Piestewa, the first female Native American to serve and die in the U.S. military. The Piestewa Peak Summit Trail is a short, 2.4 mile out-and-back hike. Switchbacks, rugged terrain and an elevation gain of nearly 1,200 ft make this an engaging but challenging experience.
