Palm Springs Art Museum
For a small city art museum, this place contains some wonderful surprises. The temporary exhibitions have been a mixed bag over the years, ranging from Met-worthy quality shows to just “meh”, but the permanent collection showcases some true gems. Keep an eye out for the best of the Native American works, especially the stupendous pieces from the pre-Columbia’s Colima culture in present day Mexico. Prominent modern artists, such as Rufino Tamayo, Louise Burgeois, Christopher Wilmarth and Dale Chihuly also all have pieces here. The third floor is definitely the most interesting, it’s for the big works which range from absolute wonders to absolutely weird. Palm Springs Art Museum is free to enter after 4:00 every Thursday.
