Armazém São Thiago
The Portuguese architecture from 1919 matches the abundant antique furniture.
Jesus Pose Garcia came from Spain when he was 20 years of age, in 1907. After a decade of hard work behind the counter, he became the founder of the armazém and named it in honor of Santiago de Compostela.
His nephew ran from Franco’s dictatorship in 1955 to join him in the Armazém to become a partner in 1967. The supermarket boom forced Gomez to change the delicatessen into a bar carrying his name.
The same shelves that used to be filled with Portuguese wines and olive oils, nowadays are lined with countless types of cachaça. A wide variety of colors, bottles, prices and qualities to experience. It’s a way to raise an appetite for feijoada. Caipirinha is a soft alternative.
Unequaled are the bolinhos, fritters with surprising fillings. Try the black bean with jerked beef or shrimp with pumpkin cream.
