The Hanging Church
This is one of those places you’ve gone to at least 10 times and school trips - but you still appreciate. It’s one of the oldest churches in Cairo and is in the area of Old Cairo, a fantastical region of Mosques, Churches, and Synagogues laying side by side representing the hopeful religious unity Cairo once had. You may be wondering why it's "hanging"; it's because it's built on top of the Fortress of Babylon, an ancient fortress used across centuries for protection in Mesopotamia. #church #babylon #oldcairo Photo by: Elias Roviela via Flickr
