Many people choose to visit the Uyuni salt flats without visiting the surrounding areas. Big mistake! This reserve is located close to the Chilean border and is the eastern edge of the Atacama desert. The landscape here is surreal and beautiful and like nothing I've ever seen. In the reserve you will see multi-colored lakes (yep) dotted with flamingoes, desert mountains in shades of purple, pink and orange (yep) and huge steaming geysers. If you have the opportunity to visit Bolivia, then make time in your itinerary for this reserve.
