This palace-like private school is situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, and is adorned by piercing turrets. It is this dark, Gothic architecture that supposedly served as the main inspiration for Rowling’s idea of Hogwarts, only a short walk from Candlemaker Row, Greyfriar’s Kirkyard, and the Elephant House.
