Mission San Jose, "Queen of the Missions" Lots of history here. Founded by Spanish missionaries around 1720 to evangelize the natives, completed around 1780, secularized and somewhat abandoned thereafter. Restored and preserved by city, state, and national agencies (CCC, WPA) in the early part of the last century. Now part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
