Kwun Yam Temple
Hidden in the deepest mountains of Lantau Island are the never-told temples and monasteries that were built since the last of the Qing Dynasty. Covered by the lush mountainscape, the oldest was built in 1833 as part of the 'Deer Lake Temple'. Unfortunately the monastery is no longer opened to the public, but the newer Kwun Yum Temple is a sight visitors shouldn’t miss. A concrete balcony overlooks the entire Tai O valley and peninsula and an octagonal pagoda make this spot an iconic religious site. Locals still frequent the area to submerge themselves into the calm and peaceful nature that contrasts the city life. #religion #lantauisland #hongkong #architecture #history #art #temples #monasteries #nostalgia
