Yuanyang Rice Terraces
Yuanyang Rice Terraces was a place I dreamed about coming since I’ve moved to kunming and I think this picture shows why. The terraces were created by the Hani people 1300 years ago and they still live there today a lot in their traditional “mushroom houses” which are interesting enough in their own right to wander around. I really loved it here and wish I had more than a weekend. This is the first place I’ve been to in china that wasn’t choked out with tour buses McDonald’s and gift shops. It really feels like stepping back in time. The time to see the rice terraces with these reflections for sunrise and sunset is from November to March. And bring layers. It’s cold here at that time and yunnan doesn’t believe in heaters in buildings. Stay in timeless youth hostel, the owner knows all the good hikes and it’s located right in the center of a traditional village amongst the terraces. Favorite place in china so far. #hiking #views #mountains #history #architecture
