Alice Austen House
This US National Historic Landmark was the home of the prolific photographer and Staten Island native Alice Austen and her partner Gertrude Tate. Austen was one of America’s first serious female photographers and her unfortunately often overlooked work on display here provides an intriguing look at turn of the century New York. The structure itself was originally built in the early 1700s and besides showcasing its most famous inhabitant’s talents, hosts special exhibitions, educational programs and various performances.
