Yakima River Canyon Campground
Head south from Ellensburg (or north from Yakima) on Yakima river canyon road to get to this beautiful part of Washington state. On the eastern side of the cascades this area is a lot drier than the green mossy forests Washington is know for. There are plenty of free campgrounds along this road and hikes highlighting the beautiful warm colors (autumn is the best! There's a lot of birch trees around here that turn beautiful colors). Bighorn sheep are a common site as well. Tubing and fishing is also common on the river. A good spot in eastern Washington that isn't as far from Seattle as some of the other eastern Washington gems. And a good place to get your camping fix in in the winter when the mountains are covered in snow (bring a good sleeping bag though, it's still reallllllly cold here in the winter) #hiking #camping
