From the Column of Constantine, jump on the T1 tram for a short ride to Valens Aqueduct.  Like everything else in Constantinople, it’s water supply system was built on a grand scale. Commissioned by the emperor Vales, the 150km-long channel brought water into the city from the surrounding countryside.
